Reggae Titles

From mento to ska; from ska to rocksteady then reggae. Reggae is authentically Jamaican and emerged in the 1960’s at a time when there was much violence and injustice in the society. W hile the earlier genres were primarily for entertainment, reggae became the music with messages reflecting the conditions that existed and promoted hope for the people. Indeed, Reggae is music for the people and celebrated by the people. February has been observed as Reggae Month in Jamaica since 2008. The month long observance with heightened festivities highlights the importance of reggae music to Jamaica’s social, cultural, and economic realities.
