National Reading Competition

Overview

The National Reading Competition was launched in 1988 as part of the Jamaica Library Service’s 40th Anniversary celebrations. At the time, it only involved the age group 9 to 11 years. The competition has since grown to include additional age levels, allowing persons form age 6 and over to enter.

In 1999, a category for adults was introduced, persons aged 15 years and over. By 2006 this category was divided into two groups where persons aged 15 to 20 were placed together and the other aged 21 and over.
